Ko Olina is one of the most stunning wedding destinations on Oahu — and one of our absolute favorite places to photograph. Nestled on the leeward coast about 20 miles west of Honolulu, Ko Olina's four protected lagoons offer something rare in Hawaii: calm, crystal-clear water perfect for ceremonies and portraits, guaranteed sunset backdrops, and world-class resort infrastructure that makes everything easier for couples and guests alike.
We've photographed hundreds of weddings at Ko Olina across all of the major resorts — Aulani, Four Seasons, JW Marriott Ihilani, and Lanikuhonua — and we know every inch of this area. The lagoons face due west, which means you get direct, warm, golden-hour light on your ceremony every single evening. It's one of the few spots in Hawaii where the sunset light is almost always perfect.
The protected lagoon environment is a major advantage. Unlike open beaches on the North Shore or Windward side, the lagoons at Ko Olina are calm, clear, and wind-protected — which means your hair stays in place, the water looks pristine in photos, and your ceremony area is sheltered and comfortable for guests.
The four lagoons each have a slightly different feel. Lagoon 1 near Aulani has a dramatic rock formation backdrop. Lagoon 3 near the Marriott is wide open with clean sightlines to Diamond Head on clear days. Lagoon 4 at Lanikuhonua is the most private and intimate. Knowing which lagoon to recommend based on your vision is exactly the kind of local knowledge we bring to every wedding.
Our favorite portrait spots at Ko Olina include the rocky lava shoreline between the lagoons for dramatic silhouette shots at sunset, the grassy lawns overlooking the water for wide-angle ceremony photos, and the narrow pedestrian path between resorts for intimate walking portraits.
Golden hour at Ko Olina typically runs from about 45 minutes before sunset. We always build your portrait timeline to make sure you're in position at exactly the right moment — that's when the light turns from harsh to magical and the photos go from beautiful to breathtaking.
We've worked extensively at every major Ko Olina venue: Aulani (A Disney Resort & Spa), Four Seasons Resort Oahu, JW Marriott Ihilani, Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute, and the Ko Olina Resort & Marina. Each venue has its own coordinator team, vendor requirements, and location logistics — and we know them all. That familiarity means less stress and smoother coordination on your wedding day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — Ko Olina is one of the most consistent venues in Hawaii. The leeward coast gets far less rain than Windward Oahu, and the protected lagoons mean calm conditions even on windier days. It's an excellent choice any time of year.
If you're hosting your ceremony within a resort's private property, the resort handles permits. For the public lagoon beach access areas, state beach permits may be required. We can point you in the right direction — just ask.
We recommend scheduling your ceremony to end 60–90 minutes before sunset. That gives us time for family formals, wedding party photos, and then private couple portraits during golden hour when the light is at its most beautiful.
Ko Olina is one of the most popular wedding destinations on Oahu. We recommend booking 9–12 months in advance, especially for peak season (October through April) and holiday weekends.
Absolutely — we're based in Honolulu and regularly cover Ko Olina with no additional travel fee. It's about a 30–40 minute drive depending on traffic.
