We've photographed many weddings at Haiku Gardens and the venue consistently produces some of our most lush, romantic imagery. The combination of tropical greenery, reflective koi ponds, and mountain backdrop creates a visual depth and richness that's unique among Oahu venues.
Haiku Gardens is a photographer's dream — everywhere you look there's beauty. The koi ponds provide perfect reflective surfaces for creative portraits. The tropical garden paths create intimate, layered backgrounds. The chapel ruins add architectural character. And the Ko'olau mountains rising in the background add scale and grandeur to every wide shot.
The venue's windward location means softer, more diffused light than the leeward coast — particularly beautiful for portraits during overcast conditions, which are common in Kaneohe. Some of our most magical photos from Haiku Gardens have been taken in light mist with the mountains draped in cloud.
The koi pond with its wooden bridges and tropical plantings is our favorite portrait location — the reflections and layered greenery create images unlike anything else on Oahu. The garden chapel area with its stone walls and tropical canopy is beautiful for ceremony coverage. The open lawn with mountain views behind you works perfectly for wide group shots.
We recommend arriving early to take advantage of the morning light filtering through the tropical canopy — it creates gorgeous, dappled, romantic imagery that golden hour on the west side simply can't replicate.
Kaneohe and the windward side receive more rainfall than the leeward coast — this is what keeps Haiku Gardens so lush and green, but it does require weather awareness. The venue has covered areas and the restaurant chapel provides indoor backup options. We always come prepared for windward conditions and frankly some of the most beautiful images we've ever taken at Haiku Gardens involved dramatic overcast skies and light rain.

Yes — Haiku Gardens has a restaurant venue with indoor event space and covered outdoor areas. The venue is experienced with windward weather and has good contingency plans. Some of our best images there have been taken in beautiful overcast light.
Haiku Gardens works well for intimate to mid-sized weddings. The garden setting lends itself to gatherings where the natural beauty is a central part of the experience rather than large-scale productions.
Haiku Gardens is approximately 25–30 minutes from Waikiki via the H3 freeway. It's very accessible for guests staying in Honolulu.
The koi pond areas are primarily used for cocktail hour and portraits rather than ceremony. The main ceremony areas are the garden lawn and chapel space. We'll make sure you get beautiful time near the ponds for your portrait session.
Drone coverage at Haiku Gardens can capture stunning aerial views of the gardens and the Ko'olau mountain backdrop. We coordinate all FAA compliance and confirm availability with the venue.
